Our start to the season has been disgraceful. One point from four games is unacceptable and our worst start since 2008 - you could argue it's even worse as we didn't lose in the League Cup that year. Our toughest games are arguably ahead of us and we go into them having won just three league games all year.
It is therefore unsurprising that the fans are unhappy. The number of supporters in the online community wanting change seems to be growing on a daily basis and a number of fans voiced their frustrations at Greenhill Road following yesterday's defeat to Partick Thistle. The international break means we have a long wait until our next game and it is time for the board to do something. The current form is only going to generate speculation among fans, the media and even the players and management. Lennon is effectively pleading for his job when you read his quotes in today's papers and that sort of uncertainty doesn't do anyone any favours.
This is not an attempt to look at the pros and cons of a change of manager. It is a plea for the board to make public their thoughts on the issue. Back the manager or start looking for a new one. Doing nothing is not an option.
If the board have no intentions of sacking Lennon and assistant Tommy Craig then they must say so. A statement saying they understand that results have been poor, but they are fully behind the management team, are willing to give them time to get things right and that everyone needs to pull together would be a good move. It would remove the uncertainty and speculation - at least for a time - and allow Lennon and Craig to get on with managing the team and trying to fix the problems. Yes, the dreaded vote of confidence is often a sign you're about to get the boot, but it is unfair expecting the management team to do their jobs to the best of their abilities when they have the fear of the sack hanging over them - regardless of what they've been told behind closed doors.
And if the board are considering a change, now is the time to make it. With a fortnight until the next game it would allow the search for a new boss to get under way and there's a fair chance they could be in place by the time we face Motherwell in Paisley on September 14. If we don't have a new man by then, it gives the caretaker manager have the best part of two weeks to work with the squad and get his ideas across to them - far better than him suddenly being handed the reigns a few days before we face the Steelmen.
Nothing is going to happen in the next fortnight to change our poor start to the season. We'll still be 11th, we'll still only have one point and we'll still be out of the League Cup. Now, not 10 days time, is when the board needs to either rally the troops and show they support the manager so the fans should too or decide enough is enough, end the Lennon era and begin the hunt for a new boss.
Back him or sack him. It's their choice - but the situation cannot be allowed to sit and fester for the next two weeks.
