Stat Attack

Ignoring the Reserve League Cup, and the highly prestigious Renfrewshire Cup, for the purposes of this, last season was the first time Saints have ever won two trophies in the same season. Obviously, Gus MacPherson became the first Saints manager to achieve this, whilst most of the players joined the previously rare band of players who have won two trophies with Saints. Hugh Murray, however, took his tally of medals to three, having previously won the first division in 2000.

Assistant manager Andy Millen became the oldest ever Saints player when he played against Forfar at the start of the season, and obviously continually broke the record throughout the season. He also clocked up his 800th career appearance in December against St. Johnstone.

Saints finished the season with 76 points, the exact same total they finished with six years ago in 2000. This time, however, the gap back to second place was twice as big. By a coincidence, the day the team picked up the trophy each time was the same; Saturday 29th April.

The club record of wins in a season, 31, from 71/72 was also matched, whilst Saints managed to go from 1st January 2005 until 28 January 2006 without losing a league game, only Motherwell in the League Cup triumphing. Saints got revenge for this with their first win against higher league opposition for a very long time (don't ask how long) in the Scottish Cup in January.

Saints appearance in the League Challenge Cup final was the second in the club's history, and the win saw the trophy come back to Paisley for the first time ever.

And finally, by scoring his first goal against Dundee to win the league, Billy Mehmet has ensured that every time someone does their first something at an important time (first goal in the World Cup Final, or first race win comes at the Indy 500), I shall call this "doing a Mehmet". Cheers Billy!
