It's harsh but fair. We aren't going to last at the top for much longer, and we'll probably be knocked off on Saturday evening. The target for the season was to avoid relegation, not qualify for Europe or the top six. Still, so far things have gone well, and the signs are there that we'll do better than in 2000/01.
Under Tom Hendrie, we lost our first three games and had just four points after nine matches. This time around, we've won our first two games and have already scored more points than we did in those nine games. Even if we now replicate that season exactly, we'll end up with around 40 points or so, which should be more than enough to keep us up.
We're scoring goals and, at the moment, aren't leaking loads at the back. That was one of the main problems the last time around, as was our inability to take many points off of the likes of Motherwell and St. Johnstone. So far, we've beaten Motherwell and Caley Thistle in the sort of games we'd have lost in 2000/01.
The only thing that needs improved is our record against the bigger teams. We took no points from Rangers, Celtic and Hearts, and just one point from Hibs thanks to a last minute goal. That season, Dundee United took four from Rangers alone, and we finished five points behind them.
If we can improve on that by a few points we'll be looking good. let's start by taking something on Saturday, and therefore stay top of the table for at least another week.
