Saints are still without Kevin Twaddle and Simon Lappin due to injury. Barry Lavety will face a late fitness test, whilst Allan Russell is also missing. The good news is that Paul McKnight is fit again, and may start at the ground which saw his last goal for Saints over three years ago. Mark Dempsie is also fit enough to return to the squad.
Mark Crilly will be extra keen to impress to show Ayr they were wrong to dump him a few years ago. The former Stirling Albion midfielder has done well so far, only managing one sending off to go with his goal. Apart from his sending off, against Queen of the South, there doesn't seem to be much sign of the disciplinary problems which have dogged his past.
Tomorrow will be the first time Ludovic Roy and Chris Kerr have played against Saints since leaving in the summer. Roy was a vital part of the championship season, and most folk were sorry to see him go. The same could not be said of Kerr. Although he had a reasonable first season in senior football, his involvement in the championship season was limited to just a handful of appearences due to a horrific injury. When he returned, he was nowhere near as good as before and I for one was happy to see him leave. He seems to have done well at Ayr though, where he linked up with former Saints goalkeepers Campbell Money (manager/director of football) and John Hillcoat (player/coach).
The last time Saints won at Somerset was 22nd April 2000, a memorable day. Saints won 2-1, thanks to Junior Mendes and a last minute winner from Paul McKnight which secured promotion (and at the time we thought the league). Can Saints break the Somerset hoodoo? Hopefully, but sadly I see Ayr winning 2-0.
