Saints have never been beaten by Brechin, something which has to continue tomorrow. We've drawn with them twice this season, thanks to the incompetence of former Saints boss John Coughlin. Now though, we have Gus MacPherson, and things are looking a bit more optimistic.
Under Gus we have only been beaten by league leaders Clyde. We managed an impressive win away to then leaders Queen of the South and just sneaked three points against Ayr. We've also drawn with Ross County and beaten Airdrie United. Not bad going for a rookie boss!
Last week finally saw fans favourite Barry Lavety score his first goal of the season, and overtake Mark Yardley in the post war scorers chart. He looks fit rather than fat, and hopefully he'll be rewarded with a start tomorrow. David McKenna must also have a chance after scoring last week, whilst new signing Chris McGroarty will no doubt start, allowing Saints to return to a back four. I don't particularly like it, but we looked awful with a back three last week!
Brian McGinty is suspended, and with Allan Russell injured it is extremely likely that either McKenna or, more probably, Basher will start the game. Laurie Ellis is obviously out, as are Kevin Twaddle, David Jack and Gus MacPherson. Eddie Annand had an operation this week but has been told he may be back training within a month! Nice one.
Brechin are set to sign a Rangers striker on loan before tomorrow's game, the identity of the player being kept secret. However it is Saints will have to watch out, as he should be half decent. Ally Mitchell, who was with Saints last season (although you might not remember him as he did sod all) will be looking to get one over us, whilst former Morton target Chris Templeman will be looking to put in a good performance and win a move away.
Saints desperately need the three points tomorrow, as we'd move away from relegation and finally beat Brechin. Here's hoping!
