Saints v Airdrie United Preview

I hope we thrash this mob tomorrow. Not because it would give us a win, not because of the fact we'd progress to the Scottish Cup 4th Round for the first time in 1994 (yes it really is that often) but because of who we're playing against. I can't stand Airdrie United. I don't care about all the BNP nonsense everyone else gets wound up about. I just hate them for what they did to Clydebank.

Airdrieonians had been in administration for two years, and knew about a month in advance they were going out of business. Did their supporters put together a rescue package? Nup. Then, as soon as they are out of business, some bloke who enjoys frequenting lapdance bars decides to start up Airdrie United and get them back into division three, minus a debt. Where wa she before? Oh of course, he wanted to write off the debt.

They fail to regain entry, so buy Clydebank. Yup they've been in administration for a while, but their supporters do a great job of trying to keep them afloat in the week that they have. They almost pull it off, but sadly don't. I'm embarrased that our chairman voted in favour of them buying Clydebank. The press keep referring to them as if they were Airdrieonians, and they haven't paid the debts. That sickens me.

Anyway, rant over and on to the preview :-) Airdrie have ex Saint Mark Roberts, who scored a few goals for us last season. He's a moany git who was a bit lazy, and probably gets on well with fellow moany git, and current Dundee United player Owne Coyle. Coyle is on loan at Airdrie and is allowed to play in the cup for them. That's us screwed.

Paul McKnight's gone so we're only missing Kevin Twaddle, David Jack and Graham McWilliam, and that's just because they are unfit rather than injured. As far as proper injuries are concerned (that doesn't include toothache Kevin), Laurie Ellis is missing with his broken leg. Gus MacPherson might be back in the squad, whilst everyone eklse should be fit. Craig Hinchliffe should return, and Barry Lavety will hopefully get that goal he needs. A third of Brian McGinty's Saints goals came against Airdrieonians, hopefully he can get another before his suspension starts.

1994 was the last time we made the fourth round, after a 2-0 win over Montrose. Here's hoping we can finally make the next round again, and draw one of the Old Firm :-)
