This morning's papers made interesting reading and the Daily Express - usually good for Saints news - had the most information. Supposedly, Gus turned up for his meeting with Stewart Gilmour over player budgets and a minute later was sacked. Negotiations are now ongoing over his compensation, believed to be in the region of £120,000.

There is still no news on the likes of Andy Millen and Stuart Balmer. It is believed Millen may be put in temporary charge to see if a takeover comes to fruition in the near future, with The Herald claiming two groups are currently weighing up a bid. One of these will almost certainly be the consortium involving the Maxi Group, who have previously been mentioned.

There's various players quoted about being shocked and the papers seem to be putting the boot in, although it's reasonably restrained at the moment. Many of the names Mirren Mad suggested last night have been thrown into the ring while a few others have emerged. One is former Saint Tommy Wilson, who is a youth coach at Rangers, and another is Willie McStay, who is involved with Celtic.

The most interesting aspect is that the board had thought about sacking Gus a year ago but there wasn't enough support. Could Gordon Scott have stood in the way of that, with his departure on Monday clearing the way for MacPherson to leave?

Mr Scott has posted a few comments on various websites today, while Mr Gilmour and co haven't added to the quotes in this morning's papers. In Today's Paisley Daily Express, the chairman is quoted as saying things will become clearer inside 48 hours - but I wouldn't hold my breath.
