Smith, who was part of the double winning side of the 2005/06 season, has penned a contract at Greenhill Road until the end of the year. Adam, who only signed a few weeks ago, suffered a leg fracture and ligament damage when he faced Celtic's under 20s earlier this week and is likely to be out until Christmas time, so the length of Smith's contract is ideal.
Smith came through the Saints youth system but got badly injured in 2009 and was sent on loan to Dunfermline towards the end of the year to regain fitness. He then signed for the Pars permanently at the end of the season and helped them win the first division the following year. However, his form in the SPL wasn't great to see the least and it'll be interesting to see if return to Paisley sees him perform like he did when he first came on the scene.
Saints boss Danny Lennon had hinted that there was some money available to sign another player and he was believed to be looking for a leftback, but the need to sign another keeper means there are unlikely to be any more new arrivals.
