The big news ahead of this game once again involves Saints legend Barry Lavety. He is once again in the squad, and according to one of the papers today is going to be starting alongside Brian McGinty. If Lavety can last at least an hour and play well the chances of him not being offered a contract must be slim. He has said he'll consider a contract, so has effectively said he wants to stay. Lets hope he proves he's up to it today.
There will be other trialists playing today, as there have been the last few games. David van Zanten will bid to win a contract, something that seems almost a certainty for the former Celtic right back. Ross Currie, Emeka Obidile, Billy Jones and the unimpressive Darren Jack also get another chance to impress, whilst there will be an appearance from former Motherwell player Dougie Ramsay. There could be a Saints debut for another former Motherwell player, Kevin Twaddle.
Robert Dunn will miss out through injury, as will Paul McKnight and Mark Dempsie, who have slight knocks which won't be risked for a meaningless friendly. David Jack and Hugh Murray also miss out with injury, whilst goalkeeper Craig Hinchcliffe is absent due to family matters. Eddie Annand, who scored on Wednesday, will be out for the next few weeks with his foot in plaster, but may still get a contract anyway.
Alloa went down on the last day of last season, despite thrashing Saints 4-0. They've signed former Buddies Iain Nicolson and Jamie McGowan as they bid to come straight back up again, and should give us a good game. Hopefully we can win, with King Barry once again on the scoresheet.
