The first division title is looking likely for Saints this season, considering that we need five points from five games. It's also looking good for Livingston finishing bottom of the SPL, as they are nine points from safety with seven games left.
Undersoil heating is required to play in the SPL, but it seems this can be installed over the summer and is not subject to the March 31 stadium deadline. Saints have asked for dispensation as they feel it would be an unnecessary cost as we'll be moving to a new stadium after one season.
Unsurprisingly, Flynn is not too impressed by Saints possibly being given a waiver, which would relegate his club, and has warned the SPL that he will contest any bending of the rules. However, it seems he has no problem with Saints being promoted if they install undersoil heating over the summer months.
With Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour saying he'll do this if we do not get a waiver, it makes you wonder what sense there is in Flynn going to court. If he doesn't, we don't need to install undersoil heating and Livingston get relegated. If he does, we end up having to install undersoil heating and Livingston stay up. Does FLynn have shares in an undersoil heating company and is worried about a lost income of around £150,000?
It makes no sense, but then Flynn still believes the SPL were harsh on the SPL for fining them £15,000 last season for paying a player registered as an amateur. Most of the rest of Scottish football, on the other hand, reckon they should have been kicked out of the SPL!
Meanwhile, half of Saints £12,500 fine for naming an incorrect team in the Scottish Cup tie against Spartans is to be paid by the Phoenix. The fine was originally set at £25,000 but was halved a few days ago. The club were still not happy with this, and local car dealers Phoenix generously stepped in to pay half. Nice one lads!
