Saints are in desperate need of a backup goalkeeper with Craig Hinchcliffe out for the season. Chris Smith has been doing a fine job, but should he pick up an injury we will be left with rookie Danny McColgan, who has yet to play a first team game. This does not bear thinking about.

Saints have already failed in attempts to get Celtic's Michael McGovern and Stranraer's Barry John Corr, however it seems that MacPherson does not see Arthur as the answer to his problems.

Kenny Arthur is one of just several players being linked with a move to Love Street in the January transfer window, and the popular Rumour Mill will return soon to deal with all the speculation.
