The defender, who hasn't featured for the first team since February, was tied down until the summer. However, the decision has been allowed to let him go and find a new club where he can get back to fitness and continue his career.
Barron broke into the first team towards the end of 2007 and looked solid at rightback. He didn't play much the following season but was switched to leftback for the 2009/10 campaign, winning several player of the year awards.
Unfortunately, a string of injury problems plagued his time at the club after Danny Lennon took charge. He did manage to appear in last year's League Cup semi-final - making up for his involvement in the final disaster of 2010 - but was injured by the time the big game came around.
Barron was a versatile player, which may have counted against him as it stopped him from establishing himself in one position. When fully fit he is a decent player and should do well at a new club.
