The defender follows in the footsteps of Darren McGregor and Jim Goodwin, who have also signed long term deals in recent weeks, and shows the club aren't prepared to risk losing their stars by waiting until the summer to sort out contacts. Ironically Barron turned down a contract until the summer of 2014 shortly after boss Danny Lennon arrived but he has now decided Paisley is where his future lies.
The former Partick Thistle youngster only made a few appearances last season due to injury and it looked like this year would be similar. However, he's barely missed a game in the last few months and has played in a variety of positions, including at centre half and as a holding midfielder. His natural position is as a rightback but Jeroen Tesselaar's injury problems means he'll be playing on the other side of defence for a while - just as he did when he won numerous player of the year awards in season 2009/10.
