The defender, who has missed much of the season due to injury, was originally offered a three year contract in August but decided to turn it down. As a result, it looked certain he would leave the club when his contract expired in a few weeks time. However, he recently suggested he was keen to sign a new deal and now has done - but only for a year.
Obviously, it is good to have Barron on board - he won numerous player of the year awards in 2010 despite playing much of the season out of position. However, the fact he has only signed on for 12 months suggests he still fancies his chances of moving elsewhere but knows that was unlikely after barely featuring in the last 12 months.
Of course, that may well not be the case - for all we know the club is only willing to give him a one year deal due to his injury problems.
