The player in question is former Saints midfielder Burton O'Brien. Bobo left Love Street in the summer of 1999 with team mate David McNamee for Blackburn Rovers, but only appeared once for the first team. The pair came back to Scotland and ended up at Livingston a few years ago, and both have been in superb form.
McNamee picked up his first Scotland cap a few weeks ago, to be the first former Saint for a wee while to be capped for the first time. Bobo already had a few Scotland under 21 caps under his belt, and it was thought only a matter of time until he made it into Berti Vogts side as well.
Not so, as it seems Bobo will now be called up by South Africa! Burton was born their so is clearly eligible to play, and with the FIFA rules changing all the times his under 21 caps could mean diddly squat. The current South Africa manager is Scotsman Stuart Baxter, who at one time was linked with any management job going in Scotland. It's his job to qualify the Africans for the 2006 world cup, and with Bobo he may just do it.
