When Campbell decided to place Mitchell, along with former Forfar player and Championship Manager god Kevin Byers, the pair took the huff and left. Campbell was less than impressed when one of his players picked up an injury in the warm up and someone else was needed to sit on the bench. With both players missing he couldn't use either of them, but has refused to comment on the dispute and just says the players were surplus to requirements.
Former Saint Andy Dow tried something similar with Arbroath last season, when he refused to sit on the bench and quit the club, which was fine with Arbroath as they were going to sack him anyway!
Mitchell only had a few months at Love Street, signing from Kilmarnock in the January transfer window in 2003. After a decent debut, he did nothing and no one was sad to see him released. He signed for Brechin, helping them into division two, and is now looking for a new club again.
