Gus MacPherson has certainly pulled off a surprise with the Brighton capture - with the Internet it's almost impossible to sign anyone these days without someone somewhere posting about it. The only murmurings about Brighton have been folk suggesting we should go for him, rather than anything concrete.
The forward, who can also play on the left if required, started his career with Rangers before signing for Clyde in 2005. After a good season there, which saw him in the side that beat Celtic and also nominated for the player of the year award, he left for Millwall. However, he's had a fairly poor two years there and has failed to play this season due to injury. If he could get himself fit he could be a good addition. He's still only 24 and seems to have both pace and power in his locker.
While the arrival of Brighton is a surprise, the departures of Maxwell and Brittain are not. There have been rumours about the pair leaving for a few days and these were confirmed today. Maxwell was signed from St. Johnstone in 2005 and was part of the double winning side. His time at Saints has been hit by injury, but when fit he's been a solid defender and had a wee goal spree in January. A move to Hamilton as a player/coach looks the best bet. Brittain arrived from Livingston in 2006 after we were promoted but, aside from a few games, has been poor. He's missed most of this season through injury and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. Good luck to them both.
The club have also revealed that while Craig Rocastle played in a friendly against Queen of the South today, he will not be offered a contract. If the rumour mill is to be believed, Inverness Caley Thistle's striker Dennis Wyness will be the next player to arrive at Love Street.
