The big defender has fractured a bone in his foot (not the same one as Michael Owen incidentally) and will be in plaster for at least four weeks. He will then have to undergo a rehabilitation program which will probably last at least four weeks again.
This is a major blow for Saints as, despite Kirk not being in as good form as last season, he has been doing well for us. The likely replacement for him is Ian Maxwell, although Andy Millen could return to defence with Mark Reilly moving into his midfield slot.
As if this wasn't bad enough, Hugh Murray may miss Saturday's match with Motherwell due to a knee injury that won't go away. John Sutton's condition is unknown as he still has a virus, whilst Billy Mehmet also has a virus and also a toe injury! As a result of this, David McKenna's loan move to Cowdenbeath has been put on hold until the injury situation improves.
With Craig Hinchcliffe and Brian McGinty also injured, things don't look good for Saints at the moment. However, if there is a plus side, it is January and we could sign a few replacements.
