The previous few minutes had seen the defence take the mickey as they passed the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. With St. Johnstone down to eight men it seems fair enough timewasting, however doing it at the back and with only a goal lead is a bit of a risk. Broadfoot then decided to go one step further when he stood on the ball, similar to what Rangers Andrei Kanchelskis did against Ayr a few years back, only minus the salute. The Fake Saints' players weren't impressed, and tried to linchy him at the final whistle.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson wasn't impressed at the time, and said afterwards: "We will deal with it internally and sort it out", which I can only assume means a fine will be coming Kirk's way.
Whilst it was amusing to see it, and amusing to see the St. Johnstone players get so rattled, I can understand why Gus wasn't best pleased. What would have happened had Broadfoot fallen off the ball, a St. Johnstone player won possession and scored? It wouldn't just have been the St. Johnstone players who wanted to lynch him.
