Beattie is currently available after being released by Swansea last month and is still only 28, even though he seems to have been around for ages. Kilmarnock thought they'd won the race for his signature, while it seems there was interest from ourselves and St Johnstone but it now looks as if he's destined for Tynecastle. This is strange considering the Jambos are trying to reduce their wage bill!
We could do with another striker, especially with Steven Thompson suspended for the next two games, but Beattie's fitness record in recent years is pretty poor so he may not have been the answer. It'll be interesting to see if we attempt to bring someone else in, especially as we have some TV cash coming in thanks to next month's Scottish Cup quarter-final.
