McLean has done well since making his break through into the first team last season and boss Danny McLean has been heaping praise on the young midfielder in the last seven days following his winning strike against St Johnstone.
Now it seems Burnley are set to watch him in action in today's game against Hearts as they weigh up a move for the teenager. Fortunately, he's under contract until the summer of 2014 so we'd be due a sizeable fee if they did want him. A few years back Burnley paid £500,000 for Dundee's Kevin McDonald, who hadn't featured in the SPL, so it's not too silly to expect us to be holding out for a similar sum.
Burnley are no strangers to the Scottish market, partly because they used to be managed by Owen Coyle. As well as McDonald they also signed Livingston's Joe McKee, who is currently on loan at Saints, and had current Buddie Steven Thompson in their side until he moved to Paisley in the summer.
Is McLean ready for the Championship? Probably not - another year of SPL football would probably stand him in good stead ahead of a move in the summer. But then, Burton O'Brien had hardly played before Blackburn took a punt on him so it wouldn't be a massive surprise to see someone make a move in January.
