Burns is out of contract with the Dumfries club, having spent the best part of 10 years there. Queens boss Kenny Brannigan recently said both ourselves and Motherwell were in for the midfielder, who can probably best be described as a younger version of Steven Thomson (the midfielder we've had for the last few years, not the guy we're supposedly trying to sign).
Chick Young apparently said on BBC Scotland yesterday that we were in for Burns, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the month.
Young also said that Thompson would be signing for us, and that nugget of news even made it onto the live text on the BBC website. Apparently, we have beaten off Hibs and one other SPL club for the former Burnley man's services.
Thompson is always linked with us due to being a Saints fan, but it seems he will be signing this time - and one well informed forum poster reckons he'll sign a two year deal when he comes back from his holidays.
If true, both would be decent acquisitions and show we are heading in the right direction. Don't expect confirmation of them any time soon as manager Danny Lennon is on holiday until the end of the week.
