The Ibrox outfit were recently hit with the ban by the SFA for bringing the game into disrepute. Their appeal to the SFA failed so they appealed to the Court of Session in Edinburgh, who agreed the ban should not have been dished out. However, by winning Rangers could have put the SFA on a collision course with FIFA, who don't like clubs going to the courts in a bid to win their battles.
Asked about the matter today, Gilmour said: "The law is an ass. I think that sums it up. What’s a court getting involved in football for? The decision had been made.
“Are we going to take every single sending-off to court? Is that what we are going to end up with? Sport should stay within sport.”
It's hard to disagree with the points the chairman makes. Interestingly a few months ago he said that when it came to any vote on a newco Rangers being admitted to the SPL he would vote in the best way for the SPL and the club - and wished Rangers well. Wonder if he still stands by that...
