McAusland was supposedly offered a similar length of contract to stay at Saints, but decided to turn that down to move elsewhere. It seems he fancies his chances of first team football more at Queens than if he'd stayed put, and you can hardly blame him. He was used sparingly last season despite the form of certain players, didn't start a game and wasn't allowed to go out on loan to gain experience.
It's a blow to loose Cheesy as he seemed highly rated and had impressed in the reserves after coming through the club's youth set-up. He is also a Saints fan and his dad Bryan is one of the directors. For whatever reason, he has decided to move on and Mirren Mad wishes him all the best.
As he is under the age of 23 and Saints offered McAusland a new deal, the club will be due some sort of compensation from Queens. The move leaves us with just two contracted central defenders - John Potter and Lee Mair - after the departures of Will Haining and Scott Cuthbert.
