Quite why Morton have waited until now is a mystery, as surely last summer would have been the best time. Morton were at least twelve points clear of the rest by Christmas time in division two, yet mysteriously hardly won a game since then and dropped down to fourth. There were rumours of betting scams which eventually proved to be unfounded, but some of their fans did believe them.
McCormack took the Morton job in 2002/03, when they sacked Dave McPherson, and he guided them to the third division title. He had previously been at Queens Park, where he won the same league in 2000, and Dundee, where he was stragenely sacked in 1998 with Dundee well on course for the SPL!
Morton are currently fourth in division two, just three points off of a promotion place. Definitely not a lost season with over thirty games to go, so it seems odd that they have chosen just now to sack him.
