With Steven Thomson and Nick Hegarty both out injured for the foreseeable future, we could really have done with some reinforcements in the middle of the park. In recent games, it looked as if it had been bypassed and there was a lack of dig, fight and creativity.
Hopefully, the arrival of Cregg can sort a few of those problems. After starting his career at Arsenal, he joined Falkirk in 2006 and spent three years at Westfield before moving to Hibs last year, linking up with former Bairns boss John Hughes. However, he was released at the end of the season. He recently turned out as a trialist for Morton and they had wanted to sign for them, but he opted to join Saints.
Cregg is certainly a tough tackling midfielder and will add some much needed resistance and fight. Hopefully the short-term deal will see him put in some good displays to earn an extension or a better deal somewhere else.
The 24-year-old is expected to be in the squad for tomorrow's trip to Motherwell.
