Just because the two teams are a division below us does not mean it will be easy. For proof of that just look at Forfar's destruction of Saints back in August in the League Cup. Both teams are doing well in division two, with Ayr being referred to as a "cup side" over the past few years forsome of their good runs.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson will know all about that, as in the late 1990s Ayr put his Kilmarnock side out a few times, and a few years ago he scored an own goal as Ayr hammered Dunfermline Athletic 3-0.
Stranraer, on the other hand, lead the second division having won division three last season. They are ten points ahead of third placed Ayr, so we could well be facing them next season as well as in the cup.
Whoever we face we will probably end up against some former Saints. Stranraer have Stephen Donnachie, Graham Guy and Lee Sharp in their squad, as well as Stephen Aitken, who was extremely annoying when playing for Morton. Ayr have Ludovic Roy, Barry McLaughlin and John Hillcoat in their side, and are probably looking forward to the chance to face former United man Stewart Kean. Keano only made the move to Saints a month ago and scored two of the goals which saw us through. Andy Millen and Mark Crilly are other ex Ayr players, whilst Millen, MacPherson and Mark Reilly may be in for some abuse due to their Kilmarnock connections.
Whoever we play it should be interesting. It will also be a tough match, let's just hope we can progress into the quarter finals.
