Players and management: John Coughlin has said the tie will be a great boost to the club and reckons some of the money raised should be used for new players. He also says we couldt Celtic which is exactly right. Everyone could do something, however in most cases there are circumstances preventing them from doing it. In this instances it's because we're crap :-) Ricky Gillies has also said its a good tie whilst Simon Lappin has been the only one so far to say how brilliant it will be playing his boyhood heroes. Former boss Tom Hendrie is in The Sun today talking about how, on our last visit there, Celtic put a tray of pies into our dressing room. Fascinating.
Sunday also saw Andy Dow moaning again, nothing to do with the cup tie. Some of his comments weren't exactly what we wanted to hear, and he wonders why we don't like him!
Money: We'll get a load of cash from this deal, and Mirren Mad has a poll up on what you think it should be spent on. We'll get in the region of £200k give or take, which is excellent for a club such as ourselves. I'd like to see a few new players brought in but what do you think? Get voting!
The Press: Surprisingly the press has only had one comment from a Celtic supporting Saint in the papers since the draw, although more will surely follow. In the off chance we beat Celtic, here are a few headlines the tabloids may wish to use. It's not hard working out which player each is for!
Saints are Lappin it up
Celts beaten by great Guy
Sorry Celts pay for not Kerring
Celts are DOWn and out
Saints Ginty (go intae) Next Round
Saints on the Mendes
Mendes against Bhoys
Celts are Robbed
Saints are Yards ahead
Celts hit new Low(ing)
Celts Dun In
And here's some general ones which could be used for any Saints victory, or any Celtic defeat, by simpling changing the teams.
Saints beat Schiedt Celts
Buddie Brilliant/Buddie Awful
Saints Alive
Saints and Sinners
Saints Go Marching On
If you have anymore, feel free to e-mail stu@stmirrenfc.net and I'll shove them up :-)
The fans: Most fans, including myself, aren't bothered about going out the cup with a hammering as we'll get some cash. For the ones who are worried, here are some reassurances as to why the tie is a good thing:
We'll get some cash
We usually get put out in the third round, usually to someone like Hamilton or Ayr
We've been hammered on a regular basis this season, one more won't hurt
The team below us, Arbroath, play the other half of the OF. Therefore both teams confidences will be equally wrecked ;-)
Overall: This tie is a great thing for the club. it will give us some money to do some interesting things, like pay some debt or sign a player. It gives those Celtic fans in the Saints squad a chance to play their boyhood idols, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it in the papers! It also gives us the chance to cause an upset and beat half the Old Firm, a very, very good thing :-)
