Doris has scored a fair number of goals for Arbroath in the last few years but is unproven in the first division, let alone the SPL. The 24-year-old was on trial at Birmingham earlier in the season and has been nominated for the second division player of the year award twice in recent seasons.
He's clearly a talented player on the up but we've been stung before with players coming in from the lower leagues. There is talent in the lower leagues but many of the players we've brought in from the second division have struggled to put it mildly. It also seems to be hard for lower league strikers to make an impact in the SPL but that hasn't put off Saints boss Danny Lennon, who has supposedly offered the former St Johnstone man a two year deal.
Lennon has also agreed deals with two goalies, but isn't revealing who until the paperwork is completed at the start of next week. One of them is almost certainly Swansea's David Cornell, who looks set to sign on a season long loan deal. The Welsh under-21 international - has had a couple of loan spells before but hasn't made the breakthrough at the Liberty Stadium, partly because Swansea have a couple of handy goalies in front of him in the pecking order.
That leaves the identity of the other goalie to be revealed. Ex Killie keeper Kyle Letheren was on trial with Saints before the end of last season but it seems he won't be offered a deal. Former Stoke goalie Steve Simonsen looks the best bet as his contract with Dundee is up, while there are still rumours linking us with Aberdeen's Jamie Langfield and even Craig Gordon, who hasn't played for nearly two years!
All will be revealed on Monday.
