The individuals in question are Joe McLaughlin and Paul Lambert. McLaughlin only played a few games for Saints in our title season, scoring a vital goal against Airdrie which gave us a valuable three points. He was the under 21 coach in our SPL season, before landing a job at Millwall. Recently he has been helping out with the Morton youth set up. He played with Morton for a spell years ago, and would therefore be an ideal candidate for the job. He also seems to be the one the players want in.
Lambert is probably a bit of wishful thinking from the Morton fans. Lambert, who left Love Street in 1992 for Motherwell, is retiring at the end of the season. He is still registered as a player with Celtic, but probably won't be playing and is currently in Germany taking his coaching badges. In 1997, he won the European Cup with Borussia Dortmund. If he went to Morton he probably wouldn't be a player manager.
You have to wonder why Morton want another ex Saint in. Billy Stark didn't exactly do well, and whilst John McCormack won them the third division, he did manage to throw away a 12 point lead in last seasons second division race.
There are other candidates for the job, including ex Rangers and Everton player Richard Gough.
