This is a small blow but nothing major. The plans needed to be referred because the decision went against the local structural plan (or something of a similar name).
The Executive previously had until this Monday to decide whether or not to call a public enquiry, as they must do so within 28 days of being given the relevant documentation by Renfrewshire Council. Now they want another 28 days, meaning we'll need to wait until the 29th of July. Could be worse, they could have called an enquiry which would delay the project by at least a year!
The delay could simply be down to staff shortages due to summer holidays, or it may be more complex than that. Nonetheless, Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour is still confident that an enquiry won't be called and we won't have to wait another year or so before we can move on. Let's hope he's right.
