Ross, who has also played for Wolves, Millwall and Aberdeen, spent the early part of the season playing in China. However, he is now back in Scotland and has been training with the Saints squad for a wee while.
Manager Danny Lennon hopes to play the former Scotland man in a bounce game next week as he weighs up a potential move for the player - although this would have to be completed by April 1.
I'm not entirely convinced we are in need of another rightback. David van Zanten can play there, while Marc McAusland and Lee Mair have also been used there - although neither was fantastic. We also have David Barron, although he seems to be injured again.
If Ross did sign, he'd probably be on a low wage as he bids to get himself in the shop window for next season.
Also training with the squad at the moment is former Saints keeper Alan Combe. The veteran, who left the club way back in 1998, is looking for a new club after leaving Kilmarnock in January, but has only joined the Buddies to use the training facilities.
