The teenager started four of Saints' five games left month, coming on as a sub in the other fixture. He also scored his first club goal against St Johnstone, enough to give us the three points, and played the full 90+ minutes when we got a draw at Ibrox.
I'll be honest and say that before the Saintees game McLean could have had few complaints if he had been dropped but clearly the last few games, together with his performance against Rangers, have done enough to convince the panel to give him the award.
Despite this prize, McLean hasn't been named in the latest Scotland under-21 squad even though he was capped last season. However, he is being watched by Burnley and the award will only attract interest from other clubs.
McLean is the first Saints player to win this award since Graham Carey during his loan spell in 2010.
