United were unhappy with Goodwin's display in the game and felt he should have been sent off. He was booked for elbowing one player and made a few other dodgy challenges but nothing worthy of a second yellow. The United players - and manager Jackie McNamara - were screaming at ref Bobby Madden to send him off pretty much every time he went near the ball, Saints boss Danny Lennon wisely subbing him just before the break.
However, Madden missed Goodwin skelping Armstrong after less than 10 minutes. I remember seeing it during the game and laughing - not because he'd done it but because it had been missed as Madden was standing a few yards away. It was a ridiculous thing to do and he can have no complaints if SFA compliance officer Vincent Lunny decides to punish him.
That said, the way it has been brought to his attention is rather odd. Footage of the incident first appeared on Dundee United's official YouTube channel with a rather petty comment, then was the main focus of BBC Sportscene's highlights programme last night. Are we now at the stage when clubs can grass up other players to get them into trouble, while who gets punished is decided by the BBC directors?
And will there be any punishment for Madden? Last time he was in Paisley was when we drew against Celtic in March. A red card from that game was overturned, a penalty was later shown to be a dive and the officials missed a blatant handball. Now he's had another shocker - but don't hold your breath waiting for the SFA to discipline him.
