There has been much disquiet with the management situation at the club in the last 18 months or so, especially in the online Saints community. A lack of progression in the league and yet another relegation battle, as well as various other issues that have been touched upon many times this season, have done nothing to improve the situation.
There have even been rumours that the Gus will quit in the summer and a new manager has been lined up, but speaking in today's Scottish Sun, MacPherson said: "I won't walk away, no chance. I still think there's work to be done here. We've achieved so much in seven years but I'm not ready to give up. It's not entered my head. There is too much pride involved with Andy Millen, myself, the staff and players.
"For me that's the most important thing at any club - or in life in general - and I take great pride in what I do. We don't expect thanks for the job we're doing and we don't look for it either.
"There's been success at St Mirren - getting to the SPL and staying there for one thing. On top of that we have gone far in cup competitions. But there's room for improvement and that's what drives everyone on at this club, myself included.
"I still see there is so much that can be done here. There is huge scope for progression.
"Ultimately, though, that will be somebody else's decision. But if someone told me seven years ago I'd be the manager who took the club into the SPL, reaching cup semis and finals, I wouldn't have believed it. We've done that and it's something to be pleased about, something to be proud about."
Of course, while the manager wants to stay, the board - new or old - may think differently in the summer, especially if we end up in the first division.
