Three of Preston's last four managers have been Scottish, in the shape of Craig Brown, ex Saint Billy Davis and Irvine. Davis and Irvin took the Deepdale club into the play-offs, so it's perhaps no surprise that they fancy another Scottish manager, but it's a bolt from the blue to see them linked with MacPherson.
Gus is highly rated by the media and many supporters of other clubs for the work he has done at Saints, but many fans are now of the opinion it is time for a change. Although his six years in charge have seen him take us into the SPL and has keep us there with little money, a record of just one home win in 2009 - combined with almost being relegated - have angered a number of Saints supporters, although there are still a number of fans who support the current manager's efforts and it's fair to say there would be a mixed reaction from the support if he left.
It's unlikely Preston will go for MacPherson with other options such as Darren Ferguson and Jim Gannon available for nothing, but it's certainly an interesting rumour - if there's any truth in it.
