The forward was only halfway through a two year contract but has now been let go. He has spent the last week or so training with Carlisle in a bid to win a move but Saints have now decided not to wait to see if the Cumbrians are planning to make a move, instead deciding to release him.
Guy follows Dougie Imrie and Grant Adam in being released from his contract a year earlier, something that has probably cost us a fair sum of money. His departure also leaves us rather short of striking options - Stephen Thompson the only experienced forward on the books with Thomas Reilly and Anton Brady the only other strikers with first team experience.
Guy started off at Newcastle and had spells at MK Dons and Doncaster before signing for Saints last summer. He had an eventful debut - scoring and being sent off in a 2-2 draw with Caley Thistle - and managed five goals in eight games. However, six goalless months followed before he scored again and the writing looked to be on the wall after a bust-up with assistant manager Tommy Craig in our penultimate game of the season against Aberdeen.
It may not have worked out for Lewis at Saints but good luck to him in the future - history will show that he scored the first goal in our successful League Cup run.
