The decision came as a shock at the time, with the BBC Scotland commentators initially believing Dixon had been sent off. Hasselbaink was charging into the box when there was a collision between him and the United defender, who immediately hit the deck.
Mirren Mad looked at the incident last night (you can find a link to our findings further down the page) and while there was definitely contact, it's hard to say whether Hasselbaink was trying to elbow Dixon or trying to push him away. The fact it's not conclusive one way or the other suggests the SFA will stick with referee Crawford Allan's decision.
Dixon has been quoted in a number of papers today saying that players were warned contact with the face would be a straight red card, which could explain things.
Hasselbaink's dismissal was for violent conduct, which means it's a two game ban. That could explain why Saints have been willing to stump up the cash - believed to be £1,000 - to make an appeal. This will be the first time the SFA's new disciplinary system has been put to the test and a decision is expected before Saturday's game against Motherwell.
