Hasselbaink - the nephew of former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd - caused us a few problems last season with his pace and strength. He looked a bit of a handful, although his finishing wasn't great. Despite that rather major flaw for a striker, it looks like he's going to sign a 12 month contract in the next few days.
The 20-year-old's agent, Humphrey Nijman, said: "Nigel had some other options. But we agreed terms with St Mirren and he is happy with that. He was impressed by what they say and I'm sure St Mirren will do better next season than the last one."
This could prove to be a decent piece of business. I reckon there is a good striker in there somewhere, but at the moment he's a bit raw. Working with Steven Thompson (and James Grady if he's still helping out) should help on that front.
Hamilton fans seem to suggest he plays better as a wide player so it'll be interesting to see where Danny Lennon uses him next season.
