Football First is STV's appaling production which shows small highlights of Scottish First Division games, usually missing the key incidents. They've been slagged off a lot, especially for missing goals due to the camera being behind a pole. However, they do have interviews with the managers and so there are some more comments from Tom Hendrie to, well, comment on.
If Hendrie wasn't our manager, or we didn't support St. Mirren, his comments would be extremely funny. Unfortunately, he is our manager so instead they are extremely worrying. Two things from this interview need commented on.
First of all, when told there is no pleasing some people in reference to the fans, he responded by saying something along the lines of "Well, we pleased them last week by beating Airdrie" So now it seems that if you win one him game between mid October and December, and two games in total since the start of December, we should be happy and aren't allowed to get frustrated. Interesting.
The other point was when asked if he felt secure in his job, he had the cheek to say yes. The only reason I think he can say he is secure is that he is on a 5 year deal and the club can't afford to sack him. If I was manager of the pre season title favourites, and had them just a few points above the drop zone with 2 games to go, I'd be very worried. In fact, I would probably have been resigned by now. if I hadn't been on a 5 year deal, I'd have been sacked. Hendrie would have probably have been gone by Christmas, unfortunately he has a long term deal.
Still, could be worse. he could have gone down the 4 breakways route!
