Iwelumo signed for Alemannia Aachen last summer, having finished his season by helping Brighton to promotion to the Championship during his loan spell from Stoke City. He'd had many offers btut decided for a move to the continent and a shot at playing in the UEFA Cup, which Aachen had qualified for. However, like fellow ex Saint Stephen McPhee, he has returned to England after just a year away.
If Iwelumo could help Colchester to promotion it would be the third time he has helped a team escape from League One, having helped Brighton and Stoke to promotion over the past five years.
Iweulmo, who is Scottish despite the name, was at Saints in the mid to late 1990s before leaving for Denmark on a Bosman in the summer of 1998. He returned to Britain a year or so later when he signed for Stoke. Despite being a tall striker, he wasn't very good in the air and lacked a physical presence. He does, however, seem to have improved a bit since he left us. He would even have played in a Scotland B game if Stoke hadn't had a play off match!
Meanwhile, ex Saint Burton O'Brien's future is still in doubt. The Livingston captain was rumoured to be close to a move to Hearts, however new Jambos boss George Burley has decided to offer the midfielder a trial, which Bobo rejected.
