Junior Joins Grimsby

The Motserrat international started the season with League One team Huddersfield Town, however they decided he was surplus to requirements and loaned him to Northampton until the end of 2005. He was due to sign for The Cobblers permanently, however the deal hit a snag and he has now joined Grimsby until the end of the season. It could end up becoming a permanent deal, as he is out of contract in the summer.

Mendes spent two spells with Saints after signing from Chelsea in the mid 1990s. His first ended after we had won the first division title, when he controversially moved to Dunfermline. After a year there, he spent another year in the wilderness before returning to Saints in 2002. He scored a memorable hat trick against Clyde before moving to Mansfield in the transfer window, before signing for Huddersfield eighteen months later.

Mendes may not be the only former Saint moving clubs this month. Steven McGarry is surplus to requirements at Ross County and could move to Raith Rovers. Allan Russell's loan spell at Mansfield Town was meant to end at the end of 2005 and, whilst I haven't read of it being extended, he is still there after a contract dispute with Macclesfield Town.

Meanwhile, a former Saints trialist has been forced to retire. Lee Hardy picked up an ankle injury whilst playing a bounce game for Hamilton in October and has been forced to quit the game after failing to recover.
