Of course, he did concede three against Hamilton in October, and two against Stenhousemuir in the cup, but we'll gloss over that.
Smith was part of the Saints under 19 team last season and has been promoted to the first team this season. he was expected to be an understudy for Hinchcliffe, however when he picked up an injury in the warm up for the game against brechin City, Smith was thrown in and has played every game since.
He has pulled off some great saves, including a brilliant penalty save against Airdrie United. He also helped Saints beat Morton in the League Challenge Cup semi final with thanks to a save in the penalty shoot out. A call up to the Scotland under 21 squad must be coming soon. Let's just hope that he doesn't celebrate his award by having a howler tomorrow, as is tradition on these occasions.
Chris is the second Saints player to win an award this season, with captain Kevin McGowne being named Bell's Player of the Month in August. Strangely, despite winning all our league games in September, as well as two cup games, Gus MacPherson has missed out on the manager of the month award to Hamilton's Billy Reid.
