The under 21s were playing in Belarus at the catchily named Tractor Stadium and were losing 1-0 at the time (though Sky Sports claims it was 2-0). Kirk was given a starting role in defence and, going by reports, was doing well after a shaky start.
Kirk has come close to making his debut twice before, being on the bench against Italy and Moldova over the last few weeks. Why it has taken so long for him to get his chance is a mystery. Let's just hope tonight's match counts as a cap and he'll get another chance when the under 21s next play.
