Mair's arrival has been rumoured on the web for a while so it wasn't that big a surprise when he signed. Aberdeen had apparently offered him a new deal, while a few other clubs were also chasing him, so it's interesting that he's decided to move his family from the Granite City and a top six club to one that's been fighting relegation for the past few years.
Mair - who has also played for Falkirk, Dundee and Dundee United - is a centre half who also seems to be able to play on the left or the right. When fit, he seems to be a decent defender, but he has had a few injury problems in the past. At six foot, he's also not exactly tall for a centre half - and height has been a major problem in our defensive line in the past few years.
It's a bit of a gamble, but it also shows how much things have changed. When would we last be able to snatch a player from a top six club who wanted to keep him?
