The defender, who joined the Buddies in 2009, was one of a number of players manager Danny Lennon tried to offload in the summer. He was the only one that stayed put and forced his way back into the team - a move which also came just as we picked up some form. However, when he got injured he lost his place and wasn't able to win it back.
If a manager doesn't intend to play someone, which many fans think was the case here, then it makes sense for everyone if the player moves on. However, it does leave us rather short of central defenders with Darren McGregor and Marc McAusland the only first teamers that can play there. Mair's departure suggests there may be some truth in the rumours we're looking at Garry Kenneth.
Mair signed for Saints after leaving Aberdeen in 2009, having previously played for the likes of Dundee United and Stockport. During his time with us the centre-half scored two goals, one being a last gasp winner against Hamilton in last year's Scottish Cup. He was a stoppage time sub in the final, his pass to Graham Carey ending Hearts' last attack and ensuring he finished the game with a 100 per cent pass completion rate!
Meanwhile, young Saints midfielder Callum Thomson has joined Dumbarton on loan for the rest of the season.
