Malone was signed from Clyde, along with team mate Stephen O'Donnell, last January, but hardly featured before the season ended. After picking up an injury, he was out of action for a few months before being loaned to Dundee to gain fitness. However, with Ian Maxwell and Craig Dargo both rushed back into the first team after hardly any reserve action, this seemed a bit odd.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson even said yesterday that Malone was to return to the club after Dundee's game at the weekend. It now seems that, after having a request to extend the loan deal refused, Dundee came back with a cash offer to make the move permanent. This was accepted, and Eddie has signed a two and a half year deal.
It's all a bit strange and perhaps suggests Malone and O'Donnell (who has only featured slightly more than his former Clyde team mate) were panic signings last year.
Hopefully we have a replacement lined up, while the cash could be used to secure the services of John Rankin.
