Saints first tried to get Mathers a few months back, but as the third division side had only just signed him from Morton, they quite rightly demanded some compensation. This was obviously too high for Saints at the time, but it seems a deal has been agreed. Probably just as well as we play East Fife in the League Cup quite soon!
Mathers will be registered as a player but is mainly at Love Street to coach the likes of Chris Smith and Mark Howard. He has also played for Dundee and Peterhead - but doesn't seem to have played in the SPL.
Meanwhile, the trial period of striker Tcham N'Toya and defender Joe O'Cearuill - who both played in Tuesday's reserve win over Rangers - have both been extended.
