McGinn, along with fellow contract rebel Andy Dorman, had been linked with a move to Vicarage Road for some time and it is no surprise to see the English Championship club make a move in the transfer window. Gus MacPherson apparently told Real Radio tonight that he had received a call from chairman Stewart Gilmour saying the deal was done, meaning McGinn's last game for Saints was in lat night's win over Aberdeen.
If we can bring in some new players this month with the cash this has generated, then fair enough. However, I just hope we don't regret cutting our losses in terms of a transfer fee when we get to the end of the season.
Stephen, who is the grandson of former Celtic chairman Jack McGinn, scored on his Saints debut at Parkhead almost exactly three years ago. He scored there again in December 2007, a strike that almost gave us a famous win. A wonder goal against Rangers in October 2008 did give us a superb victory and he started this season in fine form, scoring four goals in the first few months. However, since then his form has dipped slightly - perhaps because of the speculation surrounding his future.
All the best Stephen - thanks for the memories.
