The PDE reports Murray's wages will be paid by SMISA with the money raised from their fund raising schemes, such as Saints Aid. However, and I'm not being negative here, it is possible the funds could run out and Shuggy will be released as well. This is something we cannot allow to happen so we MUST get behind any SMISA fund raising scheme that is created, to allow Shuggy to stay.
McGowan, however, is another matter. SMISA cannot afford both players wages, and apparently we don't have any space on the wage bill for Jamie. This means he could leave, although his contract does not end until the end of June. As there is no football between now and then, and only friendlies in July, it's not really a problem. After that, though, it is. Even the departure of Barry McLaughlin earlier in the week hasn't helped, it is more than likely someone else will have to leave to allow McGowan to stay. Alternatively, with the amount of free transfers around this summer, McGowan may be released and a new player, with lower demands, brought in.
The alarm bells must start ringing at Love Street, however. How can we release 7 players, sell Alex Burns during the season, sell McGowan during the week and STILL not have enough money to pay for two players new contracts, let alone bring in any new faces. What will be next, Roy to go for £10k, Ross for £20k? And we'll probably still be told we can't afford any new faces, which I refuse to believe. If that happens, stuff the title, we'll be doing well to stay up.
